Till the cows
come home

 
Hoy veremos una expresión que siempre me causó mucha gracia y es Till o Until the cows come home. Empecemos con un ejemplo:

 

 1) I finally graduated! I'm going to party till the cows come home this weekend!
   ¡Finalmente me recibí! ¡Este finde voy a festejar hasta que las velas no ardan!

Se entendió, ¿no?

Literalmente, Until the cows come home significa "hasta que las vacas vengan a casa". Lo que en realidad significa es "durante mucho tiempo", hasta que no de para más. Es el equivalente de nuestro "hasta que las velas no ardan". ¿Qué tienen que ver las vacas con todo esto? Hay distintas teorías sobre el origen de la expresión. Algunos dicen que viene del largo tiempo que tardan las vacas en volver "a casa" tras ser ordeñadas. Otros dicen que viene de Escocia, donde se ponía a pastar a las vacas durante todo el verano, es decir, un tiempo largo.
